Migrate EBS 11i to RAC with DataPump

Migrate EBS 11i to RAC with DataPump

The steps used to migrate the database using the DataPump will be reviewed and prerequisite patches for the 10.1.0.4 database are discussed.
Finally, configuring 11i for RAC including editing the tnsnames.ora, running adbldxml.pl and autoconfig are examined in detail.
The more detailed version of this paper with all the steps for setting up RAC is at www.trutek.com.

In order to migrate to an EMC /Dell /Linux /RedHat RAC cluster, the director of Data Architecture at Metro, worked with consultants from TruTek to determine the best migration path from the:
original 10.1.0.4 single node Linux database to
new 2-node Linux RAC cluster with eight processors on each node.

Automatic Storage Management (ASM) is an Oracle database component that acts as an integrated file system and volume manager, providing the performance of raw devices with the ease of management of a file system.
In an ASM environment, you specify a disk group rather than the traditional datafile when creating or modifying a database structure such as a tablespace.
ASM creates and manages the underlying files automatically.

Cluster Ready Services (CRS) is the primary program that manages high availability operations in an RAC environment.
The CRS process manages designated cluster resources, such as databases, instances, services, listeners, virtual IP (VIP) addresses, and application processes.

Transfer database and flash recovery area files to shared storage if required
Configure listeners on all cluster nodes
Configure Oracle Clusterware 10g resources for database, instance and listener
Use DBCA to automate the creation of RAC:
System tablespaces
redo logs
UNDO tablespaces
password files
Configure Enterprise Manager targets
Configure Oracle Applications for RAC

Operating System – Red Hat 2.1 to Red Hat Release 4 Update 3
Database Version – 10.1.0.4 to 10.2.0.2
Operating System size – 32 bit to 64 bit
Filesystem to ASM
Non Clustered to Clustered environment

RMAN backup takes about 2 hours
Data Transfer (100GB) takes about 6 hours to new hosts
RMAN duplicate takes about 2 hours

The new PROD cluster should generally exist on new hardware to minimize the recovery time.

Database Clone takes about 10 hours
EMC – NetApps Snapshots would significantly reduce this time.

1) Upgrade 10.1.0.4 to 10.2.0.2, clone database to new hardware and use rconfig to Convert to RAC,
2) Clone database to new hardware, use rconfig or Convert to RAC and then upgrade the database from 10.1.0.4 to 10.2.0.2 using DBUA,
3) Create a new RAC environment with DBCA and export the source and import to the target 10.2.0.2 RAC cluster,
4) Create new RAC environment with DBCA and use DataPump to export and import to the 10.2.0.2 RAC cluster.
